Clinical AI that screens every adult inpatient chart daily for malnutrition risk and writes a ranked score into the EHR, so dietitians start with the highest-risk patients; named health system customers include Penn Medicine and Cedars-Sinai.
Healthleap makes a clinical AI program for hospitals that screens patients for malnutrition. Each morning it reviews the chart of every adult inpatient and writes a nutrition-risk score into the electronic health record flowsheet, ranking patients by severity so dietitians begin with the people most at risk.
The company's argument is that malnutrition is widely missed. It states that up to half of inpatients are at risk while fewer than 9 per cent are diagnosed, and that a typical 1,000-bed hospital misses about 5,500 malnourished patients a year. It reports 88 per cent higher sensitivity than nurse-administered screening, identification of malnutrition four days earlier, and an AUROC of 0.95 during a stay across more than 166,000 admissions. It says the study was peer reviewed and published in Applied Clinical Informatics.
The program sits upstream of clinical documentation improvement and coding teams, and the site addresses dietitians, coding staff, finance and medical officers and nutrition directors. Penn Medicine and Cedars-Sinai are named customers, with reported figures of 23.8 million dollars in annualised impact at one Penn site and 11 million dollars a year at Cedars-Sinai. Screening for delirium, aspiration pneumonia, heart failure readmissions and pressure injuries is described as planned or expanding.
Healthleap announced 38 million dollars in seed and Series A funding. The pages read give no head office or office locations and no prices.
