Not yet independently verified. The launch date rests on the maker’s own Show HN post of 4 October 2026; the site shows a release dated that day. Claims about the depth of its checks are the maker’s own, and no independent report was found. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
Borehole is a technical due-diligence tool for software acquisitions and investments, presented on Hacker News on 4 October 2026 by Andrew Edmond, a former chief technology officer of Woot.com who says he has carried out technical diligence on dozens of Amazon deals. Given a repository URL from GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Codeberg, Gitea or SourceHut, it reads the working tree and the full Git history and rates the code on seven dimensions that a deal team cares about, using 106 checks, turning what the code cannot answer into questions for management. For a private target, a collector can be run on the target’s own systems. Its pricing page lists a free survey of any public repository and a full report at €249 as a launch price, rising to €499, with re-runs on the same commit free.
