Germany tenders a Data Spaces Hub to succeed the Gaia-X Hub, to help SMEs and public bodies join data spaces

2 October 2026 — Germany's Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) launched a public tender on 2 October 2026 for a Data Spaces Hub Germany. The hub is to be a central contact point that informs and connects companies, especially small and medium-sized ones, and public bodies, and helps them join data spaces: shared, governed arrangements for exchanging data between organisations in a sector. It builds on the Gaia-X Hub Germany, whose funding period has ended.

Not yet independently verified. The bid deadline, budget and contract length are in the tender documents on Germany’s e-Vergabe platform, which our reader could not open. The publisher has not stated them in its announcement; we will update the dates here once they can be read. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

What the hub is to do

According to the ministry, the hub will:

  • inform companies, especially SMEs, and public bodies about data spaces and connect them;
  • support onboarding to data spaces;
  • showcase projects and business models that use shared data;
  • help the public sector bring administrative data into data spaces.

Who should look at it

  • Consultancies, associations and non-profits that can run a national information and onboarding service, and consortia with data-space technical expertise: the tender is the opportunity.
  • SMEs and public bodies considering a sector data space, for example in mobility, manufacturing, health or agriculture: the hub will be the place to ask once it is awarded.
  • Vendors of data-sharing, connector and identity technology for data spaces: a national hub influences which tools newcomers hear about.

What to do

Bidders should open the tender on e-Vergabe now to check the deadline, eligibility and lots. Companies interested in data spaces should watch for the award announcement and the hub's start.
