GROWI, Inc. (株式会社GROWI) is a small Japanese software company that develops and supports GROWI, an open-source wiki system built around Markdown. Organisations can install it on their own servers or on cloud virtual machines and use it either as an internal knowledge base or as a public documentation site.
The software is free to self-host. For customers who would rather not run it themselves, the company offers GROWI.cloud, a managed service that removes the need for specialist technical knowledge. The company lists its audience as enterprises, systems integrators, internet service providers, universities and research institutions, mostly in Japan.
Its stated aims are to help organisations grow through shared information, to give users an intuitive experience, and to leave them free to customise the tool and choose how it is run. The open-source model is central to that last point, since customers can inspect and modify the code.
The company page lists a registered capital of 15 million yen, four employees and Yuki Takei as representative director. The head office is in the Takadanobaba area of Shinjuku, Tokyo, and the firm can be reached by telephone or through a contact address on its site. Prices for the managed service were not stated on the pages read.
