Daily runs WebRTC infrastructure for real-time voice, video and AI agents and created the open-source Pipecat framework; in October 2026 it announced it is being acquired by Deepgram.
Developers who need live audio and video inside their own apps, and more recently voice AI agents that talk to people in real time, are the customers of Daily, a company that has built on WebRTC since it started in 2016. On 29 October 2026 it announced that Deepgram is acquiring it.
Daily's commercial products are infrastructure: a global network for real-time calls, WebRTC client SDKs for web, desktop and mobile apps, and telephony. Its co-founder Kwindla Hultman Kramer describes the work as optimised packet-routing software, compute clusters in dozens of locations and client libraries that let developers embed audio and video. The company says it offers end-to-end encryption, signs HIPAA business associate agreements and operates under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. It is a member of the W3C WebRTC Working Group and contributes to the open-source projects Mediasoup and GStreamer.
From 2023 Daily turned its infrastructure towards conversations between people and AI. The tooling it built for that became Pipecat, which it open-sourced in 2024: an orchestration framework for voice and multimodal agents, client SDKs, the RTVI messaging standard, the Smart Turn turn-detection model, a lightweight WebRTC transport and the Pipecat Flows library. By the company's count Pipecat has more than 200 integrations and almost 400 contributors, and customers can deploy agents built with it on Daily's network.
Daily and Deepgram went through Y Combinator together in 2016, and Deepgram has supplied the transcription inside Daily's APIs since 2019. Under the acquisition, Deepgram will sell, support and develop Daily's products, the team keeps working on Pipecat and the network, and Pipecat moves to an independent foundation whose steering committee includes Deepgram's competitors. No price was given.
