UK figures · IONIQ 5 Advance 63 kWh RWD
Sources in Vehicle factsThe IONIQ 5 looks like nothing else on the road, and the reason is that Hyundai drew it from its Concept 45 study and built it on a dedicated electric platform. The result is a crossover with a roomy cabin, a flat floor and an 800V charging system. It suits drivers who want a practical electric car for everything from commuting to long holidays.
Two batteries are sold. The 63.0 kWh pack gives up to 273 miles on the WLTP cycle, and the 84.0 kWh pack up to 354 miles, both for rear-wheel drive on 19 inch wheels. The 800V system lets the latest car accept up to 260 kW in optimal conditions, and a 350 kW charger is needed for the quickest times. Hyundai says the 800V design reduces energy loss and heat build-up compared with 400V systems. Range falls with a colder day, a heavier load or a faster driving style.
The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit includes full over-the-air software updates, which need an active Bluelink subscription and a 4G signal. Bluelink also covers satellite navigation, live services and Mapcare map updates. The car has 7 airbags, including a driver's seat centre-side airbag. Blind-Spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor help with lane changes and parking, and Digital Side Mirrors and a Digital Centre Mirror are available.
UK prices start from £40,695. The Advance 63 kWh rear-wheel-drive car has 19 inch alloy wheels, a 12.3 inch satellite navigation touchscreen, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. The performance IONIQ 5 N is listed separately.
Euro NCAP awarded the IONIQ 5 five stars in 2021. Hyundai Smart Sense is the umbrella name for the driver assistance systems, and the Intelligent Front-Lighting System adapts the LED headlights to the road to avoid dazzling other drivers.
