Sources in Vehicle factsThe Born is the electric car for people who want a hatchback that still feels like a driver's car. Cupra describes it as a blend of emotion, sportiness and versatility, and the UK range runs from the entry V1 to the 326 PS VZ. It suits someone replacing a petrol hot hatch who wants the same shape and size, with enough range to stop worrying about the school run or the commute.
Cupra quotes a range of up to 388 miles (about 624 km) for the 79 kWh battery. DC charging is rated at 183 kW, and on a charger of that power Cupra puts a charge from 10 to 80 percent at 26 minutes. Charging can be managed from the My CUPRA app, which also controls the climate and shows vehicle information.
Three trims are sold in the UK. The V1 starts at £34,495, the V2 at £36,545 and the VZ at £45,995. These are recommended on-the-road prices, and the retailer sets the final figure. The car Cupra shows is the VZ 79 kWh with 326 PS and 20 inch Firestorm alloy wheels, and with optional Timanfaya Grey paint it comes to £47,090. Left-hand drive is not available in the UK.
Travel Assist 3.0 and Emergency Assist 3.6 are standard on the V2 and VZ. Other equipment includes an augmented reality head-up display, Intelligent Park Assist and Trained Park Assist, and the V2 adds a top view camera. Euro NCAP gave the Born five stars in 2022.
