Pivot

Pivot is a database for analytics, written in Rust, that runs queries directly on open table formats. It works with external Apache Iceberg tables and with Delta Lake tables it manages itself. The site is run by Epsio Labs, and the documentation says the engine is in early development and not yet ready for production.

Main features

• Queries on open formats: runs SQL against Iceberg tables where they sit, and against its own Delta Lake tables, without copying the data into a separate engine.
• Shared server: runs as a central server that BI tools and SQL clients can connect to via the Postgres wire protocol.
• Local mode: runs from a terminal or AI agent for ad hoc queries, reading object storage with no server to manage.
• Scaling: can be scaled up, down or to zero, because object storage holds all of its state.
• Benchmarks: the developer publishes speed comparisons against ClickHouse, DuckDB, DataFusion and Spark, with the test harness in its repository.

It serves applications, BI tools, SQL clients and AI agents that query data kept in Iceberg or Delta Lake tables, which other engines such as Snowflake, Spark and Trino can also read.
