Emote is an API for developers building chat agents who want the agent to react to messages with an emoji, as a person would in Telegram, WhatsApp, iMessage, Discord or Slack. Your server posts the incoming message to a single endpoint, /v1/react, with optional personality text, up to 12 earlier messages, and the reactions your platform supports: 12 default emojis, or up to 254 custom options. It returns one of those options or "none", and you can ask for reserved, balanced or expressive behaviour. The call is meant to run alongside your main model, so the reaction arrives while the reply is being generated. Documentation covers TypeScript, Python and cURL, with a guide per platform. Limits are 300 requests a minute per account, a 12,000-byte input cap and a 1.5-second inference deadline. The privacy notice says message text is passed to an external AI inference provider, which it does not name, and is not stored in Emote's own database or logs; request metadata such as token counts and model identifiers is kept. Clerk handles sign-in and Stripe billing, on Neon Postgres and Vercel. Pricing: Free, $0, 1,000 requests once per account; Developer, $100 a month for 100,000 requests, which pause at the limit rather than billing overage; Enterprise by arrangement. Payments are generally non-refundable, and the terms warn that reactions can be wrong or inappropriate. Emote is a product of Experimental Software, which its own site calls an independent software lab run by one person. The terms took effect on 18 September 2026 and name no governing law.
