Fifteen subjects completed surveys on the DigiBio app at the first session of a 12-week Healthy Back Curriculum class. Eight participants completed follow-up surveys at the end of 12 sessions. Fifty percent of the participants had at least 30% improvement in pain on a 0-10 scale of worst average low back pain relative to baseline.

30% improvement is the suggested minimal significant change as described by National Institutes of Health (NIH) Task Force for Research on Chronic Low Back Pain. Using DigiBio we were able to evaluate the low back pain program.

I research mindfulness interventions to reduce symptom-related suffering in adults with cancer. DigiBio has enabled my team to offer mindfulness meditations for at-home use on a smartphone app, adding ease to subjects’ lives and rigor to my clinical trials. The app accurately and objectively tracks how often subjects access intervention materials at home, a method far more reliable than traditional hand-recorded logs. With a few built-in survey items before and after each meditation, the app also allows us to assess the immediate effects of practicing at home.

For our lab, DigiBio has enhanced the efficiency of collecting data in daily life. We work with a population where cognitive deficits are common but DigiBio is easy to use and has been adaptable for their needs. One aspect that has been particularly helpful is that DigiBio incorporates both active and passive data collection methods, making it easy to incorporate traditional and objective assessments in daily life. The DigiBio team is also very responsive and have are actively engaged in solving problems when they arise.
