ScyllaDB is a NoSQL database written with the Seastar framework, using a shared-nothing, shard-per-core design. It is compatible with the Cassandra and DynamoDB APIs, is aimed at low-latency, high-throughput workloads and also offers vector search. It is developed by ScyllaDB, Inc.
Buyers must note the licence. The code is under the ScyllaDB Software License Agreement, version 1.1, last updated on 12 April 2026. It is source-available rather than open source, and its grant is strictly limited to what it calls Never Customers, meaning entities that have never been commercial customers. Organisations that already buy from ScyllaDB should therefore read the terms with their legal advisers before assuming the source release is open to them.
The database can be run self-managed or as a managed cloud service, ScyllaDB Cloud, including ScyllaDB X Cloud on AWS and GCP. Commercial offerings are ScyllaDB Enterprise and ScyllaDB Cloud, which includes a bring-your-own-account option. The vendor states a free tier of up to 10 TB of storage and 50 vCPUs across clusters, with community support only. Paid plans are not priced, though the pricing page offers a calculator for Cloud and Enterprise costs.
Versions are numbered by year. The latest is 2026.3.2, dated 20 September 2026, with 2026.1.14 and 2025.1.16 patches dated 24 September 2026.
