Fly.io raises the price of Machine memory to $6 per GB a month from 1 October

22 September 2026 — Fly.io has published a new price list that takes effect on 1 October 2026. The main change for most customers is memory: every Machine preset can take extra RAM at $6.00 per GB per month, up to 128 GB. Fly.io's current documentation prices additional RAM at "about $5" per GB for 30 days. The company says Machine CPU pricing is unchanged.

The new Machine prices

The new page lists monthly prices for its fourteen presets. They include:

• shared-cpu-1x with 256 MB at $2.19 a month;
• shared-cpu-8x with 2 GB at $17.56;
• performance-1x with 2 GB at $33.00;
• performance-16x with 32 GB at $528.00.

Stopped Machines are billed at $0.15 per GB of root filesystem. Volumes cost $0.15 per GB a month and snapshots $0.08, with the first 10 GB of snapshots free each month. Egress is $0.02 per GB in North America and Europe, $0.04 in Asia Pacific, Oceania and South America, and $0.12 in Africa and India.

We could not compare the preset prices line by line. The current documentation draws its preset table with a script that did not render when we read it, so the only old-versus-new figure we can state is the memory rate. The page itself carries no publication date. We date this item to the day we read it.

Sprites move the other way

For Sprites, Fly.io's metered environments, the new list charges $0.03825 per CPU-hour of cumulative CPU use and $0.021875 per GB-hour of actual memory use. There are no plans, tiers or per-Sprite charges. Fly.io's own example is a Sprite running flat out on 2 vCPUs and 4 GB for a 720-hour month. It costs $118.08 under the new prices, down from $226.80. Hot storage is $0.50 per GB-month and cold storage $0.02, both unchanged.

What to do before 1 October

• Re-forecast memory-heavy apps. An app that runs large Machines, or adds RAM on top of a preset, sees its bill move with memory. Multiply your provisioned GB by the new rate, not your average use.
• Right-size before the change. Machines sized for a peak they rarely reach are the cheapest thing to fix, and the saving now applies at $6 a GB rather than $5.
• Look again at Sprites for bursty work. Sprites bill actual CPU and memory time and got cheaper, so the case for moving intermittent jobs there is stronger from October.
• Check Managed Postgres against your own plan. The new page lists cluster plans from $38 a month and storage at $0.28 per GB. We could not confirm the current figures to compare.
