**Who we are
**Who are Code Wizards? Good question!

We're a bunch of people who love working together, creating things and working with clients and partners.

Formed in the mid-2000s we've been growing at a pace that allows us to expand while keeping our ethos and values. We're small by consultancy terms but that enables us to be specialists and for everybody to work together well.

Now we're across two sites: Reading (Berkshire) and Birmingham (West Midlands) which allows us to have a presence nearer to our clients.

It's trite but we like to like our clients; we find that way we have a partnership and we achieve more so relationships are important to us. We want clients who will work with us for many years so we understand each other and so we can have conversations with them. Our best successes are our client's best successes and most of them are because of collaboration making a great idea even better.

**What We Do
**Enterprise Architecture
Our experience shows us that most IT projects and products have a long lifetime and it's important to get the best value from them.

Enterprise architecture seeks to work with how things fit together systemically/what can be improved/what risks does this create or mitigate within your business.

Our work helps clients document a strategy to work towards for the next 5 to 10 years, establish a roadmap for business strategy alongside the IT strategy and allow each business to understand how it fits with partner businesses (or acquisitions).

**Solution Architecture
**Solution Architecture allows us to work through challenges before any development commences.

It's become normal to push solution architecture into agile sprints but this often leads to sub-optimal results and much higher costs. With solution architecture we're trying to answer questions like:

**How does this solution fit the need?
**Are there alternatives that better match the cost/time/performance/risk trade-off matrix?
What technologies/packages does it comprise?
How it can be built, verified, secured and performance tested by development teams?
Will this system performs and how can that be improved and scaled?
In addition, we also cater for security reviews and due diligence/legal reports.

**Development/Engineering
**Alongside Solution Architecture we are able to plan and execute our development capability.

We provide a number of (client-led) approaches across a number of technologies and platforms but our goal is always the best solution for the client.

Our approach always "embeds" business analysts and testers into our development teams. This way we get "soft" skills alongside the engineering approach and this leads to better communication with our clients and a better output because of it.

**Big Data/Business Intelligence
**Business Intelligence and Big Data have become buzzwords across all industries and few use these technologies/processes effectively to improve their business.

We tailor our approach around the customer and we've helped clients understand how to take data lakes (even though we hate that term!) and separate data sources to allow analysts and business users to understand and mine that data.

We also do some AI-based work on top that’s useful for some clients like automated segmentation and prediction algorithms (where this is effective and useful for clients).

Support
We're growing our support arm within Code Wizards.

At present we support (mainly) UK clients around extended UK hours but we're moving to a “follow the sun” model.

But we're not like many organizations that ring-fences "developers" vs "support engineers": our programmers are third line support so any issues will be progressed quickly to our coding team before they become a problem and all of our development team are scheduled to work on support issues so they understand customers and their issues.

**How we do it
**Code Wizards is owned and run by a technical team. We all started our careers as software developers and have honed our skills and specialized in our niche roles over our time in the industry.

It is well known that software projects often overrun in time and budget and in the worst of cases do so whilst also having features dropped. How do we at Code Wizards avoid this? We do so in three main ways:

1. We don’t believe in one size fits all. We understand that each client has different requirements, reporting and governance and as such we work with you to identify what you need from us as a software delivery partner. We are fully versed in a wide range of development processes and technical stacks and will only propose solutions and approaches that fit the requirements of your project. We generally run 2 weeks sprints within our own development team but we can use this to complement any overarching project governance your company may have.

2. Our team has experts in their field responsible for the various elements of software delivery who span multiple projects ensuring they retain a holistic view. Essentially in programming terms, each person retains single responsibility for their area – they are the system of record!

3. Communication is king. We love speaking to our customers and clients. They're the ones with the great ideas and they're the ones who tell us how to improve. We're not proud and we love feedback (positive and negative) so we encourage working directly with clients across every role in our business. If you phone the office there's a good chance one of our senior team will answer the phone and take your call (and we do this every day).
