Aqua Comms is based in Dublin, Ireland, is the owner and operator of the transatlantic cable, America-Europe Connect (AEConnect), and the Irish Sea cable, CeltixConnect. Aqua Comms was established to build, acquire or merge with subsea fiber optic cable networks to provide capacity networking solutions to carriers, global data centers, financial services companies, global media, and cloud and content providers, including Web-scale providers and Over-the-Top (OTT) companies that require exceptional reliability and performance.

connect, which spans more than 5,490 km across the Atlantic with stubbed branching units for future landings, provides secure, low latency and high capacity connectivity from New York to London via Dublin and beyond to greater Europe.

With more than 52 Tbps of available capacity, the next-generation undersea cable system has an initial capacity of 13 Tbs per fiber pair and can provide connectivity in increments of 10G or 100G to multiple terabits from all the major Points of Presence (PoPs) in Dublin, New York, and London. connect represents not only a new transatlantic cable design but also a new way of building networks – data center to data center, instead of Cable Landing Station to Cable Landing Station. By providing private dedicated connections, AEConnect lowers network costs and enables higher and more consistent network performance for end-users.

The connect system is also designed to be the most secure transatlantic cable system in existence. On both the U.S. and European sides, the cable transverses the minimum length of shallow water along the Continental Shelf while obtaining 1-5 meters of burial throughout the span.

The cable also avoids major fishing grounds and shipping anchorage areas that are known to expose subsea cables to damage. Additional armoring and deeper burial were also obtained to further mitigate the potential vulnerability.
