UPPER

UPPER is a company built around the idea that knowledge work is moving towards remote, freelance arrangements. It aims to help people and companies find each other and get software work done. The business says it wants to end hidden high margins and unaligned incentives in software projects.

What UPPER offers

• Freelance software work — connecting companies with independent people to build software.
• Remote collaboration — methods and technology to support distributed teams.
• Fairer project terms — an aim to remove hidden margins, so-called hostage projects and conflicting interests between buyer and builder.

Who it works with

The business addresses companies commissioning software of any kind and the freelancers who build it. Its stated belief is that the future of work is largely freelance and remote, helped by technology, new methods and accumulated experience.
