SohamGeni is the general insurance product of the SOHAM range, a group of Java-based core systems developed by Dream Tekis. The vendor says it has served the insurance sector since 2006, and its earlier material described customers among insurers and reinsurers in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The software is meant to take a general insurer through the whole life cycle of its business, covering client management, underwriting, claims, reinsurance, accounting and management information.

Setting up products and pricing

Insurers use the system to launch new insurance products and adapt existing ones to what the market wants. A rating engine lets them configure their own rating rules and arrive at premium rates. The vendor also highlights the freedom to issue several policies at once, with rating, quoting, binding, issuing, endorsements and renewals all handled in the same place.

Policy administration and intermediaries

A workflow covers the whole path from onboarding a customer to issuing the policy. Pro-rata calculations on a policy run automatically, and staff can see real-time information about each one. The system also manages intermediaries, with licences and commissions handled for each tier of the hierarchy, which matters for insurers that sell through agents and brokers.

Claims, reinsurance and accounts

Claims handling uses data-driven analytics, workflows and rule engines, which the vendor says help guard against leakage from claim fraud. Reinsurance is integrated across all modules, with real-time treaty allocations and treaty financial statements, and risk evaluation is streamlined at underwriting and in accounts. The accounting module is described as fully integrated and highly configurable: it lets users define a chart of accounts and works with multiple currencies for both insurance and general accounting.

Reporting

Reports are parameterised, so the same report can be produced in several versions, and exports are available in PDF, HTML and Excel formats. A dynamic report builder lets users choose the columns and their order.
