Elli, the energy and charging brand of the Volkswagen Group, has operated from Berlin, Wolfsburg and Munich since 2018 and plans a home vehicle-to-grid package for German customers in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Elli is the energy and charging brand of the Volkswagen Group, legally Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH. It has operated from Berlin, Wolfsburg and Munich since 2018 and describes itself as one of the largest charging companies in Europe. Its stated aim is to move from being an e-mobility provider to a software-driven supplier of energy solutions that connects homes, vehicles and the electricity market. Giovanni Palazzo is chief executive of Elli and senior vice president for charging and energy at Volkswagen Group Components.
Elli sells charging hardware, services and electricity. For private customers that means wall boxes, access to more than a million public charging points, and electricity tariffs such as Volkswagen Naturstrom Connect, its first smart tariff for charging an electric car, based on renewable energy. For businesses it offers a full ecosystem for fleets and sites, from planning to operation, including the Flexpole fast charging column and the Elli Site Management Console, plus hardware migration and integration services. It also develops charging technology that sits inside made-to-measure e-mobility solutions in Volkswagen, Skoda, Cupra and Audi vehicles.
Elli's customers are electric vehicle drivers at home and on the road, and fleet and site operators. Its latest offer is a vehicle-to-grid package planned with Volkswagen for German private customers from the fourth quarter of 2026. It combines the car, an app, a dynamic tariff, a smart meter, a bidirectional DC charger and installation. Elli supplies the tariff, controls the charging and trades the pooled battery power on the EPEX Spot exchange. Volkswagen says further European countries will follow Germany.
