Rivian R2

What it is

The R2 is a five-seat, midsize electric SUV from Rivian, aimed at a lower price than the larger R1 models. At the time of research Rivian's page marks it as coming in 2027 and describes a reservation process rather than open sales. A refundable deposit of $100 secures a place in the queue, and reservations are open only in the United States and Canada, with more locations promised. Reservation holders are to be invited later to configure and buy their vehicle.

Trims and price

Three trims are shown, called Standard, Premium and Performance. Some features, including Adaptive High Beams and the Torch, are limited to Premium and Performance, and a Launch Package is included with Performance for a limited time. Rivian lists a starting price of $44,990, subject to change, with taxes and fees varying by state. The page leaves the range and battery figures as placeholders, so no official range number is available from it.

Charging and driver assistance

The R2 uses the NACS charging port, which gives access to more than 21,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States and Canada, according to Rivian. The company says a 10 to 80 percent charge on a DC fast charger takes under 30 minutes. Driver assistance features named on the page include Universal Hands-Free driving on marked lanes in the US and Canada, Lane Change on Command, Adaptive High Beams, emergency braking and blind spot warnings. A 60 day trial of Autonomy+ comes with delivery. Rivian also says the vehicle improves over time through software updates.
