Mercedes-Benz CLA 250+ Electric

The CLA 250+ Electric is the entry point to Mercedes-Benz's electric sedans in the United States, and it suits a buyer who wants a compact four-door that is easy to live with every day, with a range long enough for weekend trips. It is the rear-drive version of the CLA, sold next to the all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4MATIC Electric and a CLA 220 hybrid, so the body shape stays the same whichever powertrain you pick.

Range and price

The EPA-estimated electric range is 374 miles, about 602 km. The all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4MATIC Electric is rated at 312 miles. Starting prices (MSRP) are US$47,950 for the CLA 250+ Electric, US$50,500 for the CLA 350 4MATIC Electric and US$43,900 for the CLA 220 hybrid. Battery capacity is not stated.

Charging

Mercedes-Benz promotes its High-Power Charging Network, which gives its drivers preferential access across North America. On electric models, a system called Electric Intelligence helps plan a route for range and charging stops. Charging speeds and times are not given.

Inside and outside

The CLA has a standard fixed Panorama roof, an illuminated star panel at the front and LED taillamps. There are nine wheel designs, from 17 inch wheels with removable aero covers to 19 inch AMG alloys. The cabin has a full-width dash with dual digital displays, and the optional Superscreen adds a third for the front passenger. Heated, power-adjustable front seats with memory are standard, and 64-colour ambient lighting is available. Electric versions have a frunk with a cargo organizer in addition to the usual boot.

Driver assistance and software

DISTRONIC is the adaptive cruise control. The optional MB.DRIVE ASSIST adds steering and lane change assistance on highways, and Blind Spot, Lane Keeping, Evasive Steering and Emergency Stop functions are standard. PRE-SAFE PLUS can adjust the front seats and seat belts before a collision. The fourth-generation MBUX runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System and includes a voice assistant. The Mercedes-Benz app works with iPhone, Apple Watch and Android phones and supports a Digital Vehicle Key, and some functions need a Mercedes me ID and a subscription.
