Data City

The Data City runs a platform that shows what companies actually do, as an alternative to relying on standard industry codes. Its Industry Engine combines search, classification and financial data on UK and global companies, both active and dissolved. Policymakers, investors and economic development bodies use it to study sectors.

What Data City offers

• Industry Engine — an AI-supported platform for searching companies and building custom sector classifications.
• Real-Time Industrial Classifications — more than 500 sector definitions, including life sciences and fintech, built with machine learning and industry experts.
• Data services — bespoke projects, new classifications and data supplied in the format a client needs.
• Industry reports — downloadable reports built on its classifications.

Who it works with

Regional and national economic bodies, universities, trade associations and consultancies. Earlier text on the listing described a Leeds-based membership organisation using data to benefit the city.
