trail ML is a Munich software company, founded in 2023, that builds tools for governing artificial intelligence inside organisations. Its software keeps track of the AI systems a company builds or buys, works out which rules and frameworks apply to each, and automates the documentation and checks that compliance teams would otherwise do by hand. Collibra announced on 5 October 2026 that it had acquired the company.

What it does

The product is organised in modules: an AI registry, AI policy, AI literacy, curated frameworks, risk management, automated documentation, development tracking and audits. Governance agents analyse an AI system's context, decide which controls apply, check whether they are in place and flag gaps; trail ML says these agents write to a customer's systems only after a person approves. The frameworks it covers include the EU AI Act, ISO 42001 and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework. It integrates with tools such as OneTrust, Collibra, ServiceNow, SAP LeanIX, Confluence, Jira, GitHub, Databricks and MLflow.

Who it serves

trail ML sells to companies that need to show regulators, auditors or their own boards how their AI systems are governed, and to the governance, risk and compliance teams who do that work. It offers the software as a service from EU data centres, on premises, or in a customer's own AWS, Azure or Google Cloud account, which suits regulated firms that keep data in their own infrastructure. The company claims customers deploy AI four times faster and complete compliance work 70% faster.
