BlackRhino VR

BlackRhino VR is an immersive media studio started in Johannesburg in 2015 to speed up the uptake of extended-reality technology in Africa. Alongside commercial production, it aims to train young Africans to become XR makers themselves.

Products and services

• 360-degree video: full production handled in-house, from stitching and colour grading to motion graphics, editing, sound mixing and delivery files.
• 360-degree live streaming: multi-camera coverage edited live, so viewers can pick their own angle on an event, with on-demand playback afterwards.
• Virtual reality applications: VR software built on several frameworks to suit different headsets.
• XR training and workshops: teaching sessions, including work with refugee women and university workshops in Kenya.

Clients

Clients and partners named on its site include Henley Business School Africa, researchers working in emergency camp settings and the Electric South lab, with which it co-produced the VR film Le Lac.
