Desjardins Venture Capital now operates as Desjardins Capital, an investor providing venture capital and development capital to local businesses. It has been investing in businesses since 1974, aiming to support their prosperity and that of their communities, and offers tailored financing and advisory support. It backs small and medium-sized enterprises across a range of sectors as they start up, grow or change hands through a business transfer or acquisition, and says it puts its financial and strategic expertise at their disposal through a team present across the region. Its financing takes two forms: an equity stake in the business, or an unsecured loan providing working capital. It also supports companies adopting a cooperative ownership model, and helps with buying another business, improving working capital, innovating, modernising facilities, or exporting products.
