Time-Series Database Software

TimescaleDB (Tiger Data)

New· 7

TimescaleDB is a PostgreSQL extension that adds time-series storage, partitioning and compression, sold as the managed Tiger Cloud service.

About TimescaleDB (Tiger Data)

TimescaleDB is a PostgreSQL extension that adds time-series storage, partitioning and compression, so time-series data can be queried with SQL. It is developed by Tiger Data, the company formerly known as Timescale; Tiger Data is the vendor's current branding. Its licensing is mixed. Code outside the tsl directory is under Apache-2.0, an open-source licence, while the code in tsl is under the Timescale License, which is not an open-source licence, so features that depend on that code are source-available rather than open source. Buyers should check which features they need. It runs as a self-managed PostgreSQL extension or as the managed Tiger Cloud service. The latest release is 2.30.2, dated 29 September 2026. Tiger Cloud pricing starts with the Performance plan from $30 a month and the Scale plan from $36 a month, with Enterprise priced on request, and a 30-day free trial is offered. Because it is an extension, it requires PostgreSQL and is not a standalone database server. It suits teams that already work with PostgreSQL and want time-series capability without adopting a separate database.
