DeckCraft

DeckCraft is a free, open-source presentation editor from ArtCraft, a group that publishes creative and office apps it calls the Crafting Apps. Its repository describes it as a clean-room reimplementation of Microsoft PowerPoint written in Rust, with a ribbon, slide thumbnails and a workflow modelled on PowerPoint. The repository was created on 7 October 2026 and its own readme says the program is in alpha, heading for beta. On 27 October 2026 the newest release was version 0.11.1, published on 25 October.

What it does

According to the readme, DeckCraft can build decks from slide masters, eleven layouts and eight themes, and draw with more than 150 preset shapes, connectors and freeform tools. It adds pictures, tables, charts, basic diagrams, audio and video. For presenting it has transitions including Morph, entrance, emphasis, exit and motion-path animations, presenter view, a pen and rehearsed timings. It opens and saves PowerPoint .pptx files and exports PDF, PNG, JPEG and animated GIF. Every command can also be run from a command line, a JSON control channel or an MCP server, so scripts and agents can build decks.

Platforms and licence

DeckCraft runs natively on macOS, Windows, Linux and FreeBSD and in a web browser. Its code is on GitHub under the MIT or Apache-2.0 licence, at the user's choice. The ArtCraft name and logos are trademarks and are not covered by that licence.

Who it is for

It suits Linux and macOS users who want a PowerPoint-like editor without a subscription, and developers who want to generate presentations from code. Because it is alpha software only weeks old, organisations should test it with their own .pptx files before relying on it; how well it handles complex decks made in other programs has not yet been shown.
