ByteDance merges TraeWork into TRAE and closes the old app 23 October

10 October 2026: ByteDance has merged TraeWork, its office AI agent, and TraeCode, its coding tool, into a single product called TRAE, and the standalone TraeWork service will close on 23 October 2026. TechNode reported the change on 10 October, saying ByteDance announced it a day earlier.

Not yet independently verified. The 23 October shutdown date rests on a TechNode report that cites TRAE's Chinese-language announcement. We found no notice on trae.ai itself and could not locate the Pandaily report. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.

The combined app brings task planning, content creation and software development into one place. TechNode describes two ways of working inside it. Agent mode manages tasks across projects, while IDE mode handles detailed coding and debugging. The report says TRAE is available on desktop, web and mobile, and that a user can start a task on a computer and then follow its progress or add instructions from a phone.

Existing TraeWork users can bring their chat history, account information and local data across through an in-app upgrade. TechNode links to a TRAE documentation page on migrating TraeWork data to TraeCode, written in Chinese. The report contains no quotation from a ByteDance executive and gives no pricing or plan changes.

For teams that adopted TraeWork for non-coding work, the date matters more than the feature list: anything kept only inside the standalone service has until 23 October to be moved or exported. Teams already on TraeCode see their product renamed and widened rather than replaced, though TechNode does not say how existing settings carry over.

Our AI coding assistant software category lists six products.

TRAE's own homepage, read on 10 October, offers a download button and a web version and does not mention the merger.
