GC2 (Geo Compute Cloud)

Geospatial backend from MapCentia that combines PostGIS, data import, spatial SQL, realtime APIs and OGC map services. It runs as a managed cloud, free during beta, or self-hosted under AGPLv3.

Launched 2026-11-07

About this launch

GC2 gives an application a spatial database and the services around it without assembling them separately. It imports GeoParquet, GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage, FlatGeobuf, CSV, GML, MapInfo and File Geodatabase files into PostGIS, then exposes them through REST and WebSocket SQL, generated GraphQL and OGC map services.

## For teams that keep data moving

Scheduled imports keep sources refreshed, and dated GeoParquet or FlatGeobuf snapshots preserve earlier states. Access runs through OAuth 2.0. There is a TypeScript SDK and an MCP server for AI agents.

## Hosted or your own servers

GC2 Cloud is the managed version, which the site calls free during beta, with limits set out in its FAQ. Self-hosting uses Docker Compose to run the app, WebSockets, PostGIS and Redis. Both rest on Geocloud2, MapCentia's older open source project.
