FOSSID offers a state-of-the-art open-source scanner that integrates into your development process seamlessly and detects pieces of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in your codebase, from entire components to code snippets. FOSSID’s software uncovers license obligations and compliance issues so that you can focus on creating great products.
“Our mission is to help companies achieve maximum FOSS adoption efficiency by introducing tools that provide unprecedented levels of accuracy, performance, privacy and automation.”
FOSSID was founded in 2016 by a team of entrepreneurs who saw a new way of leveraging the strength of open source software for innovation and rapid growth – while still being in control of the adoption process and have full understanding of what licenses to comply with.
After combining many years of experience and practice from open source software compliance activities in sourcing, legal, and engineering positions, a new approach was decided where open source software adoption was tackled not only from a legal perspective, but also from an engineering perspective.
As a result, with quality-of-service and performance in mind, a knowledge-base was built, together with a purpose-made search algorithm that in 2016 became FOSSID – a state-of-the-art FOSS identification solution.
To date, the FOSSID database contains more than 20 times more projects than the closest competitor, with 100 times faster scans. FOSSID can find modified files as well as code snippets, and has the intelligence to remove redundant results from each scan.
Our mission is to enable the industry to embrace open source to the fullest. It is our belief that open source is the main pillar of modern software development, and license compliance is the outstanding challenge that it carries.
