Supabase is acquiring Turso, the SQLite database company: both say nothing changes for existing users
Supabase announced on 2 October 2026 that it is acquiring Turso, the company behind libSQL and a hosted SQLite database. Both products…
Turso provides a SQLite-based database architecture for running one isolated database per user, agent or tenant.
Turso builds a database architecture based on SQLite that is designed for very large numbers of small databases rather than one large shared store. The company argues that AI agents need isolated workspaces, consumer apps need per-user privacy and multi-tenant platforms need hard customer boundaries, and that the usual single-database model becomes costly at that scale. Developers can create a database for each user, agent or tenant programmatically through an API, with embedded replication and per-database encryption, and a control plane manages the resulting fleet. Turso says its design keeps the database lightweight like a file while scaling like a cloud service, and that its cost grows with usage. A hosted service, Turso Cloud, can be tried free, and the site covers product, solutions, customers, partners, pricing and a blog. The about page says the company is technically based in San Francisco but globally remote, with staff in twelve countries, and names Glauber Costa as chief executive and Pekka Enberg as chief technology officer, both with backgrounds in Linux and database engineering. The site also states that Turso is joining Supabase.
