Qippay

New· 4

Auckland open banking company offering pay-by-bank payments, recurring payments (SetPay) and bank-on-file payments for New Zealand businesses, accredited under MBIE's open banking framework and certified to ISO 27001.

About Qippay

Qippay is an Auckland company that provides open banking payment infrastructure for businesses in New Zealand. It was founded in 2021 with the stated mission of building a safe, transparent and efficient open banking network. Its products let a customer pay directly from a bank account instead of by card, using the bank's own authorisation.

What it does

Qippay offers three payment products. Qip PayBy takes one-off payments directly from a customer's bank, in an online store or app, as either a hosted payment page or an embedded flow. Qip SetPay handles recurring payments: the customer authorises through open banking, a recurring mandate is created, and payments are deducted on the agreed schedule, which the company positions as an alternative to direct debit. Qip AnyPay covers bank-on-file, one-tap payments. For larger clients it sells Qippay Horizon, an enterprise launch suite that combines payment integration with payment orchestration. The company says it has direct bilateral agreements with the major banks, does not use screen-scraping and never has access to a customer's banking credentials. Its stated accreditation is under MBIE's open banking framework, and it says it is certified to ISO 27001.

Who it serves

Qippay serves New Zealand merchants who want lower payment acceptance costs, consumers who want payments authorised in their banking app, and larger businesses that want a white-labelled embedded payments service. It also publishes guides and a white paper on open banking for New Zealand businesses.
