Overwatch Data raises $15m to point AI agents at fraud and cybercrime
Mouro Capital leads the Series A, with Visa Ventures and Capital One Ventures as strategic investors; Visa is also a customer of the threat…
AI threat intelligence and risk operations platform that runs fraud, cyber, brand and merchant risk investigations on one system, from criminal-underground signals to a decision a team can act on.
Overwatch Data makes a threat intelligence and risk operations platform for fraud, cyber and risk teams. Its AI agents collect signals about attackers, investigate them and connect evidence across sources, then hand the customer an assessment with the evidence behind it. The company's argument is that most threat intelligence products stop at the alert and leave the investigation to a human queue, and that one attacker often appears in three places at once: as a compromised account in the security queue, a fraud pattern in payments and a fake merchant application in onboarding.
The platform monitors deep and dark web forums and marketplaces, Telegram and other messaging channels used for fraud, ransomware leak sites, paste sites, newly registered domains, app stores and social platforms, including non-English communities. Agents run the first pass of each investigation, the company's own analysts take the harder cases, and validated findings are delivered into the customer's SIEM, SOAR or case management tools, or as executive briefings.
Its stated coverage includes account takeover, card and payment fraud, fraud rings, the sale of attack tools and methods, and insider threats. A merchant risk module runs automated merchant review and know-your-business checks: agents resolve a merchant's descriptor to a live site, inspect its storefront and policy pages, check hosting and registration signals and trace the checkout flow, looking for miscoded high-risk merchants, shell sites and transaction laundering. A brand protection module watches for lookalike domains and spoofed storefronts and social or app store profiles.
Overwatch says its users are cyber threat intelligence, fraud and financial crime, brand protection, merchant risk, third-party risk and physical security teams. It names Visa as a customer and says it is used by more than 40 other organisations in finance, fintech and media, including card networks, banks and consumer platforms. It quotes one regional bank customer as finding six times more critical threats and saving more than 20 hours of manual triage per analyst each week.
