CactusVPN

CactusVPN runs a VPN and a Smart DNS service from Moldova, where it started near the end of 2011. The owners are a family, and they say they have refused offers to sell the business or a stake in it. Alongside the consumer VPN, it sells a data-protection service to professional practices that look after client information.

What CactusVPN offers

• VPN — AES-256 encryption, servers in 25 countries that also work as proxies, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited devices per subscription.
• Apps — clients for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Fire TV, plus browser extensions.
• No-logs policy — audited by Securitum.
• Smart DNS — access to more than 340 websites, sports, gaming and streaming services from abroad, with a no-cost tier.
• Client Data Safeguards (Professional) — weekly checks of a practice's email domain against breach data, encrypted connections away from the office, a monthly privacy log and a safeguards attestation, with a Team Check that covers practice staff.
