Chartsmart

Chartsmart is a desktop program for screening and charting stocks listed in the United States and Canada. It runs on the user's own PC, so data stays on that machine.

Its database covers more than 14,000 securities, and it receives end-of-day data updates each trading day. Users include professional researchers, brokers and individual investors.

What Chartsmart offers

• Stock screening — preset screens, or custom ones that combine hundreds of fundamental and technical criteria.
• Custom formulas — users can define their own relationships between criteria, such as cash per share against share price.
• Charting — step through charts of screened stocks, with technical tools such as moving average crossovers and Bollinger bands.
• Watch lists and portfolio manager — save chosen stocks, import positions and export data.
• Backtesting — a testing system for trading ideas.
