WeRide and GreenMobility plan driverless shared cars in Denmark for 2027
3 August 2026: WeRide and GreenMobility, the Copenhagen-listed car-sharing company, have announced a partnership to bring autonomous shared mobility to Denmark. They are aiming for a public service in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals, using WeRide's GXR vehicle.
Not yet independently verified. WeRide's own pages give different footprints: 40+ cities in 12 countries in this release, and 60+ cities in 13 countries by 10 September. The figures here are as of the dated release. We will update this when it can be confirmed, and remove this note.
The service they are aiming for
All riders will be able to request a ride fulfilled by the GXR, which WeRide describes as its latest-generation, EU-compliant, fully self-driving vehicle. The model combines WeRide's Level 4 technology with GreenMobility's local fleet operations, and the companies say they are the first to pursue commercial autonomous mobility deployment in Denmark. Further details will follow "in the coming months".
Two public bodies are named: the Danish Road Directorate and the Danish Road Traffic Authority. The release says the project involves public-sector participation and coordination with both, and that testing and deployment will follow Danish and EU regulations.
Why WeRide picked Denmark
The release lists four attractions: digital infrastructure, a premium mobility market, high electric-vehicle adoption and a progressive regulatory environment. Tony Han, founder and chief executive of WeRide, said: "This partnership marks WeRide's first entry into the Nordic region."
WeRide describes its approach as asset-light, relying on local mobility operators and fleet owners that contribute fleet investment and platform support. Han said the partnership establishes a scalable model for deploying autonomous mobility in new international markets.
What GreenMobility brings
GreenMobility, listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen under GREENM, offers shared electric city cars and vans in Copenhagen and Aarhus. It operates the largest free-floating car-sharing network in the Nordics, with more than 1,500 electric vehicles. In a free-floating network a customer picks up a car wherever one is parked inside the service area and leaves it anywhere inside the same area, with no fixed stations.
Kasper Gjedsted, the group chief executive, said GreenMobility has built "operational excellence across millions of shared car trips in Denmark".
Denmark as the sixth European market
Denmark is WeRide's sixth European market. The previous entries on its own pages are these:
- Spain: a commercial robotaxi pilot with Uber in the Region of Madrid, announced on 2 June, with rides booked through the Uber app and service expected to start later in 2026;
- Slovakia: first vehicles due in June 2026, testing in Bratislava and then Košice and the High Tatras region, with selected models expected in public commercial operations in 2026;
- Switzerland: a robotaxi with the country's first driverless passenger permit, and a robobus operating at Zurich Airport without a front-seat safety driver;
- France: a robobus at Roland-Garros for three years and fully driverless commercial operations in the Drôme region;
- Belgium: a robobus in regular commercial service in Leuven.
WeRide's footprint at the time
As of this release, WeRide says it operates in more than 40 cities across 12 countries, holds permits in eight countries and has a Level 4 fleet of more than 3,000 vehicles. It offers products from Level 2 to Level 4 through its WeRide One platform, covering mobility, logistics and urban services. In Denmark the partner is a car-sharing operator rather than a ride-hailing platform, and the target window is the first half of 2027.
