About Jowil Media

A native of Brookhaven, Mississippi, Wilson started his career at 15 as a community correspondent for his hometown newspaper He is a two-time graduate of William Carey University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in social science and a Master of Business Administration degree From 2015-2021, he was also an adjunct professor for the university His ties at William Carey also include years of service as an employee in its external relations unit, including time as director of media relations and marketing overseeing those activities for two campuses, the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the School of Pharmacy

In 2022, Wilson completed a Graduate Certificate in Economic Development from the University of Southern Mississippi He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the USM School of Media and Communication, where he teaches Media Literacy He is also an advisor for the Southern Miss Student Media Center

An experienced journalist, Wilson was a columnist and staff writer for The Daily Leader for six years and is also the award-winning former editor of Hattiesburg Publishing, which produces The Pine Belt News weekly newspaper and Signature Magazine He has also headed marketing and public relations efforts for the nation’s 12th-largest foodservice distributor, a regional sign manufacturer, and two regional nonprofit organizations

He is the founder and former president of the William Carey University Pine Belt alumni chapter and serves on the executive committee for the Mississippi Pine Belt chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, also known as NAMI He also volunteers with United Way of Southeast Mississippi as a member of their communications committee Since 2023, he has served as treasurer for the Hattiesburg Historic Neighborhood Association and the Walthall Foundation

Wilson is a past president of the Pine Belt chapter of the Public Relations Association of Mississippi and served for two years as an officer for the state organization He also served as vice president of the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi, on the advisory council for the College Media Association, and as a board member for Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center Along with awards for his work from professional organizations such as PRAM, CPRAM, and the Mississippi Press Association, Wilson was named by the Hattiesburg American to its inaugural Top 20 Under 40 list in 2015

He is the author of William Carey University: Celebrating 125 Years, published in 2017 by Arcadia Publishing as part of its Campus History Series He is a contributing author to Memories of Lincoln County, published in 2020 by Outskirts Press
