Acro Media began in Kelowna, BC, in 1998 with five guys, a dream and three months’ rent in the bank. We wanted to build a company and culture that was steeped in a real excitement for the work we were doing, a passion for the people we worked with every day, and the expertise to pull it off. In the beginning, we were a full-service agency providing everything from brand identities and marketing materials, to custom web software.
The early years
Eventually, we dug in on eCommerce, but we were doing it like everyone else: building a proprietary platform and locking our clients into our model. It brought us success but took away our freedom and that of our clients as well.
After two recessions and the dotcom crash, we saw the demand for businesses to have an online presence intensify and realized the landscape of digital commerce was changing quickly. A new wave of online needs and business pains hit our clients. We had to evolve our solution, so we did.
The wonder years
How did we change? We discovered the open-source, and we fell in love.
The open-source approach to commerce was exciting. It was the freedom, customization and community that we had been searching for. We quickly became experts in this architecture, and discovered that there were companies out there that needed the edge of eCommerce platform customization and API integration to differentiate their customer experience from a sea of “me too’s”.
We make a ‘real’ difference for our clients. We provide solutions for direct to market retailers who want to lead their industry through a commerce infrastructure that frees them from perceived online constraints. We empower them with the knowledge and technical toolbox to build a digital world that serves their business and their customers.
